Okay. There is a bolt loose towards the bottom of the AC Compressor (represented in red in the picture). It won't screw in, so I need to take it out and replace it with a new one. And, it will ALMOST come out, but the AC clutch is in the way. Do I have to remove the AC clutch? And if so, HOW?, and is it hard?
That bolt is an oval head Torx. It should have one side ground off so it can be removed. Might want to use your mirror and have a look at it to get an idea.
The pulley itself also has a cut away to allow that one side cut off torx bolt to clear it completely as you pull the bolt all the way out.Loosen the torx bolt and when it gets near the pulley, spin it around so the cut off flat side aligns with it and out the bolt comes.
Thanks guys. I got the bolt out. Not sure why it was loose. I looked at it; the threads are fine, and it's not bent or anything. I tried to screw it back in, and it just stops a little less than a centimeter from being completely screwed in. It'll keep turning, but it won't go the rest of the way in or tighten.
Not sure what's going on... but the car seems to run fine without that bolt.

weren't the a/c bolts torque to yield? They used these to eliminate them coming loose from vibration. What I have heard is all.
If I remember the Harrison R4 setup, there's a spacer with this bolt. I'd guess someone had it off before and didn't put it back together right. Bolts aren't torque to yield.
Well since this thread is going, my 89's clutch MUST come off, DOES,it require a puller. A/C quit yesterday, I am going to verify clutch by sending direct 12 volts , but suspect its toast, how do I know if I need just the clutch or the compressor?

my 90's denso clutch puffed some smoke, and now turns by hand. that is a pretty good sign
