Default 3.07 installation

To upgrade my 89 to 3.07s do I need just the ring and pinion for $20 on ebay or do I have to get the whole case for $1200? I saw 3.07 from a viper on ebay but just the gears. Thanks

It's highly recommended by most people to just swap the entire carrier. Setting up the ring and pinion is a very very precise procedure. If it's not perfect you'll wear away your gears in no time.

And IMHO, go for a 3.54 or something. I have 3.07's and it would be nice to have a little more.

The price differance is what would make me take the chance...want to sell your 3.07s? :p: Would the 3.54 be bad for highway driving?

Hey Tim. I have 3:07's in my '87 (55,000 miles) and I might want to go the 3:54 route. 3:07s are fine on the highway. At about 60 miles an hour, I'm at 1700 rpms. (Actually, maybe a little higher. I will check tonight and let you know) I never actually had my gears checked or anything (so I guess I can't swear on my life that they're 3:07s) but the RPO numbers say that's what I have. Being that I'm in New York, maybe I'll sell these to you.

I don't know how much I should sell them for, though. And, I don't know how much it would cost be for the the 3:54's with installation... So I have a couple of things to think about (and get prices on). But, if you're interested, we can talk more. I'm on Long Island. The only reason I want to upgrade is I hear the 3:54's are the best for C4's. You may want to take that into consideration. But, if you're looking for something that wont rev your engine to high at high speeds, 3:07's are fine...

You probably saw Viper Gears, which is just the name of the gears themselves.

"Dana 44 3.07 out of a dodge viper rear end" is what it said. Have heard that gears from a viper would fit.

The way I understand it, if you have 2.59s or 2.73s, the 3.07 gears will not fit that carrier. You can get 3.54s or 3.73s for either carrier though.
