On my '85 I had it mounted on the support that runs between the front of the motor and the radiator. This keeps it up and away from any possible water. All you need is a square flat piece of metal with holes drilled in it matching the MSD box mounting points and sandwich it around the support. This also cuts down on the amount of wire you have to run. :seeya
On my 88 vette, I mounted an MSD 6AL on the passanger side brace that supports the hood latch, on later vettes the factory installed the radiator fill resevoir on that same location.
P.S. that also makes for the shortest distance for all the wires going to the Batt. and Dist.
on my 84 there's room between the battery and the passenger area kind of a pita to drill / mount but plenty of room and out of the way - any VERY handy to the battery!
Thanks everyone! I am going to mount the MSD on the passanger side brace that supports the hood latch. Thanks for the pics too.
Note that you don't have to drill into the brace at all. I used 2 T-shaped steel brackets from the hardware store and secured them around the with 2 hose clamps ea around the brace (bottom of the T's facing each other). Then drilled 4 holes in the top corners of the T's matching the MSD bolt spacing. Add a couple of rubber grommets (or in my case folded-up bicycle inner tube) and you have a sturdy, low-vibration mount.
On my `85 I mounted it in the compartment behind the drivers seat. You'd never know it was there, and I used Delphi Weatherpak connectors and ran the loom behind the rocker panel and used a small fuse block from Painless wiring and then the trigger wires up to the distributor. Works great and nobody sees it and no extra clutter in the already crowded engine compartment.
Thanks for all these options. We put it behind the bump on the passenger side dash. Nobody knows I have MSD. Only thing is you can her it buzz when sitting idleing.
