took everything apart and even the cover. I unbolted the 3 bolts to the heater core and don't know how to get it out? It looks like the piping is going into the engine bay...DO I have to take MORE apart? hope not. I have a pic if anyone is not knowing what I am talking about.
yeah, 2 on the bottom and one on top. I said I got those off but I don't know where the metal lines from the heater core go into the firewall. I mean I see the metal lines but don;t know if they pull out or I have to disconnect them from somewhere

On the '92, which I just finished replacing the heater core, there are 6 screws that hold the heater core housing together. There is a small steel clamp which wraps around the bottom of the heater core, it's held in with 2 screws, that clamp will need to be removed. Be sure to replace it / put it back on the new core or you will have a rattle that will drive you "Nuckin' Futs".
Identify, bag and label all the screws. Mark both sides of your wire connectors, male and female, with a permanent marker (I used letters) to be sure that you put the correct connectors back together. There are two sets of white connectors (circuits 238 and 239) that are alike, except for the wires running into and out of them, don't get those switched or you'll be scratching your head wondering why the car won't start. Also check all the wires to be sure that the terminals are in the connectors properly. I had a factory 2 strand crimp on one of the tan ground wires that held on for almost 20 years until the heater core was replaced and the only 2 strands that were crimped finally gave way.
Took me a "Bit" to figure that one out, found the problem Monday night and began to button everything up but work has gotten in the way of my car repairs. I expect/hope it will be on the road tomorrow morning.
Good luck with yours and don't forget to post any problems you may have.

as I said yesterday, move the expansion tank. Remove the (2) 7mm bolts that hold the expansion tank on, move the expansion tank, you will see 2 hoses going into the firewall, remove the clamps and pull off the hoses. you will then see 2 metal necks sticking out of the fire wall, you can now remove the core from the inside. you cant pull the core through with the hoses connected to the heater necks.
GOT IT OUT !!..I dont really see where coolant would be leaking from it but do see a LITTLE rust in some spots. Where the hoses attach to the pipping it was coolant soaked in the foam pertectant. So maybe thats where it was leaking. I am going to pick up the new core today and will start putting it all back together. Thanks for all the help.
I say it's probably good to run the heat some before winter just to make sure it isn't leaking. Sure does suck to turn the heat on during the winter just to find it leaking. Then have to replace the heater core in the middle of winter.

This I can tell you from my experiences with C4 heater cores.
There is no good time of the year to replace them.
