You have to remove the body panel that is next to the battery, GM calls it a "fender". To do it you also have to remove some of the bolts in the rocker panel. It will be evident how to proceed as you go, be careful not to flex the body panels too much, you can break them. When you put the panel back, you will need to align it, not difficult.
BTW- I have had excellent results with Interstate, on several different cars, the one in my Vette now is 8 years old and still passes a load test, and I have never babied it, trickle charged it, etc. I drive the car year round.

Sailorsteve,
Thanks; I have already bought a battery from Advance Auto. Saved around $70 on an $85 battery. My last battery was also an Interstate and is 6+ years old.

After you get the panel off the bottom hole should be cut into a "U" rather than an "O" for easier access in the future. You dont necessarily have to remove the panel completely but it helps to do it. I find in order to removed the bottom bolt you have to loosen the lower rocker panel at the inner wheel fender, take 2 of the 7mm self tappers and two of the star screws inside the door in order to get the lower fender bolt out. If its modified into a "U", the bolt only has to be loosened not removed.
I have to do this today so the less work the better.
