Alcl diagnostic problem ?

Alcl diagnostic problem ?

Can anyone tell me what's going on with my stock "85 manual.....I plug a wire into the the A and B terminals and there's all kinds of clicking going on within my engine compartment. The SES light comes on there's no flashing. No code 12. Seems it's not working properly at all...

make sure you are looking the the connector right and in fact are shorting a to b mine was in backwards i suppose someone had taken it loose and put it back wrong.just a thought

Looking at the ALDL connector, the pin A is the one on the top row at the far right. Pin B is the pin to the left of pin A. Pin A is a ground.

Insert the grounding wire before turning the ignition switch to RUN. I use a paper clip.

Thanks George, I've been doing it exactly as you've suggested. Mike, was your car exhibitng the same symptoms as I described, when you were unknowingly grounding the wrong wires ? Was this 'cause your ALCL connector was upside down ?
