Default Porting an LT1 Intake? Worthwhile Gain?

I also needed to fix an intake leak and was wondering since it was off if I should have it ported. My heads are stock still. Make a difference or not?

Tpis said no improvement. Just looking for a second opinon.

Everything remaining the same?... perhaps not. Start with a hotter cam with maybe a little port work to the heads and then you would see some improvements. IMHO, GM engineered their setups pretty well as a PACKAGE. Modify one aspect of the package and I wouldn't look for serious improvements. When you, say, modify the heads and intake along with a cam that can capitalize on the porting then you may see some gains that are worth the effort. Again, IMHO :)

Like he said, by itself it wont really do anything. Now put a hotcam in and/or port the heads and you might get somthin

I've read that it makes a difference but it is so small (ie: barely any) that it is not really worth the expense.

While I'm not an expert, I have a 94-97 LT1 manifold and a set of 96 LT1 heads on my workbench. If you set the intake manifold/head gasket up to the intake, the ports are slightly smaller than the gasket and very well aligned. On the other hand, if you hold in intake gasket against the heads, you'll see the cores are all over the place and the pushrod obstruction is blocking the intake manifold port. I can't believe porting an LT1 intake will ever make extra HP on a set of ported heads, much less stock heads with no porting.

Again, I'm not an expert, I just report what I see,
Eric
