Trying to install a hardtop on my 90 Vert - Got back bolts started but can't get front bolts to start - what do the 89 - 96 brackets and the earlier 86-89. I think someone has maybe retrofitted the earlier front brackets on hardtop. Haven't tighten anything but just can't get front started. Any help appreciated.
I agee. Start front first. Do not tighten all the way until front and back are started. Press down on edge of front to compress weatherstriping and start. Maybe use second person.
Definitely start up front and leave them about half loose. Hopefully, the glass-to-frame mounting job is accurate and it will fall into place. If not, you may have to start over at the frame and refit it all.
I took everything loose and back out of holes and was able to get front started - it was about 1/4 inch off to the drivers side when back was started and then when front started the back connector pins wouldn't go in the convertible top holes - off by about 1/4 inch back there at least. Convertible top works great and is water tight so I think the hardtop has been bumped around during its life and needs to be adjusted which I suppose is done on the back connectors - anyone ever adjusted one? Maybe it's my car but it doesn't seem so - clear carfax and car all fits good so doesn't seem to have been in any real bad accident. Any help appreciated!
Thanks
The dealership had to make adjustments between the frame and the lexan twice before my new one was correct. It's a bit tricky from what I remember because I think the bolts are under the part of the brackets we use to secure the whole thing to our cars. It's been quite awhile and I don't have the car anymore so I can't look at it to remember exactly what he did. I just know it did have some room to move and it made a big difference.
