1995 vette with LT5
are all LT5 cars ZR1's?
i'm looking at one but it has the base wheels on it--not the ZR1 wheels.
he has no pics of the engine posted.

Need more information. Various years of ZR-1s have different wheels. the 94-95s had the A mold wheels. 91-93 had the turbines and the 90 models had the cuisinart wheels if I'm not mistaken.
Whatever ad you're reading probably has misinformation. Tons of "ZR-1s" on craigslist that turn out to have an LT-1 under the hood.

he says he bought it new and lists it as a 32 valve all aluminum 405 hp motor.
it has the 'saw-blade' wheels on it.
sounds too good to be true, huh?
can you post pics on here?

Sure. Are you viewing this on Craigslist? Sounds like he knows his stuff on the valve count and power rating anyway. Never know.

Although it wasn't in 1995, some of the earlier ZR1's came with sawblades, and the LT5 engine was exclusive to the ZR1.

do they all have the wider rear body even if they don't have the 5-spoke ZR1 wheels?
should it have some ZR1 emblems on it?
here is a pic.

Check out the VIN to make sure it's a ZR-1
5th character will be: Z (ZR-1 Model)
8th character will be: J (LT5 Engine)
10th character will be S (1995 Model Year)
If the above check out, then it's possible he put earlier ZR-1 wheels on it.
Post a link to the ad if possible.
Some of the ZR-1 experts can spot a fake 5 miles away.
And if it's a real Z, they will be able to tell you all the history on the car.
Yes, they are that passionate about their cars.

Yes, they all have the wider rear body.
Yes, the ZR-1 had emblems on the rear bumper.

I'm no expert, but it does look like a ZR1 (wide body) to me, and the rear wheel is on the wrong side.

It does not have the high mounted 3rd brake light though.
I don't think that car is a ZR-1.

Rear view of a ZR-1
Note the distance between the license plate and backup lights.
Also, the high mounted 3rd brake light that all ZR-1's had.
Now a regular 1995
Note there is no gap between the license plate and backup light.
Also, no high mounted 3rd brake light.

i just sent him an e-mail and asked for the vin# or at least the 5th, 8th, and 10th characters.
it's crazy cheap--i think it's an LT1 car.

Did he advertise it as a ZR-1? It's possible someone dropped an LT5 into a regular coupe. Might still be fun. No way it is a ZR-1 though.

Doesn't look like a Z to me in that picture, though it's not great. No high mounted light, and the bottom rockers don't appear to curve back out.
Admittedly it's hard to tell though.
The guy probably looked up the specs for '95, and assumes his car was the "best" one when confronted with multiple engine specs. Seen plenty of people, especially original owners for some reason, do that.

yea i think i scared him off. he had the 32 valve all-aluminum 405 hp engine listed but didn't call it a ZR1.
he didn't want to give me the vin and never answered my questions about the roof mounted light, the valet key, or engine pics.
i think it's doubtful he put an LT5 in it.
thanks for all you guys' help. i'll keep you posted if it turns out to be a real one.

Dude, it's not a ZR-1. It still may be a nice car though.

yea he finally got back to me. it's an LT1.
i think it's like Aurora40 said--he bought it new and just looked up some specs when he posted the ad.
seems like a nice guy--it has 161,000 miles on it and he said it's never been wrecked.
it's a little pricey tho for an LT1 auto car i think.
