Default Adapters-Burn chips without unsoldering.

There is a way to do burn the chip without having to unsolder the chip. Although the picture has a zif socket you do not have to go that route. You do have to bypass the eraser safety switch to work with the door open MAKE SURE YOU PROTECT YOUR EYES. The adapter with the bent pins will plug into the programmer just bend the unused pins out of the way, the second plugs into the carrier. Here are the part # from JDR for blank chips and the zif socket.

27C256-90______EPROM(AM27C256-90______3.99
28-6554-10_____ARIES ZIF SOCKET_______8.190

I do not remember the part #'s but with a picture you can probably find them in a good elec parts catalogue.

I've made an adapter to make things even easier. Try:

FYI: I prefer Craig's solution or adding a zif to the memcal directly. Reason being, if you try new chips as often as I do, the wear and tear on the memcal and more importantly the ECM receiver for the memcal from constantly plugging and unpluging it isn't smart.

I've got the adapter from Craig and it looks great. Haven't tried it out yet since I am still awaiting the programmer. I didn't like the idea of having to solder on my only good chip. Saving the factory stuff for a required backup. :seeya

I'm another Craig fan - installed the ZIP/memcal adaptor 4 days ago and have already burned 2 chips. It is so easy - well worth the bucks.
