Hey. I'm seeing that you can buy a ZZ4 for $3500.00... That seems pretty inexpensive. 355 horsepower and 405ft lbs. Would it be much better or less expensive to stroke to 383?
Oh no. Not at all. I'm just trying to rebuild the car so that it looks and runs like new. Instead of replacing parts with regular parts, I'm going to try to do better. I love the looks of my car - even compared to brand new sports cars. But, it could use more in the performance area.
well do your research, look up old threads on the forum, visit the tuners' sites and pick a hp # or 1/4 mi ET and we'll tell you what you need to do to get there.
The power aspect is based on what you do for heads, cam, and induction. If 355 hp is enough for you then your money ahead with the ZZ4. Stroker motors are pretty expensive to build. Buy one from LPE and spend $15K. I probably have $7K into mine! However, 383 strokers make tons of tourqe and with well matched induction, cam and head combinations, make gobs of hp and are hard to beat!
Crate motors are typically a lot less of a head ache though, and are usually more reliable! Speed is exspensive...how fast do you wanna go? :)
The ZZ4 isn't that much different than a 88-91 L98 corvette long block.
-It has stonger lower end parts but I would prefer to use some of the aftermarket parts as they are stronger. (essentially, it use the best parts 350 GM makes)
-It uses stock 88-91 Corvette Heads
-It has a better cam ZZ3/ZZ4, again there are better cams out there for the L98 (ZZ9 and LPE 211/219)
So your getting a 250hp corvette engine with a cam, unless you upgrade the exhaust and intake.
