Hi, i'm into LS1 Z28s and looking to make some mild mods on a friend's 93 Corvette. It has a MT and the only mod is a Borla exhaust. I did a search here and found out that the consensus is that all a chip does is turn fan earlier. SLP says the following:
Proms, 1992-93 LT-1 Corvette manual, 49 state
SLP?s prom?s are made by recalibrating brand new GM Cal-Pac?s, not by simply soldering a Prom onto a Cal-Pac. While this keeps cost down, you get a more reliable chip. The proms are recalibrated to optimize spark timing and air/fuel ratios for increases in wide open throttle performance, and turn your electric fan on at 200ºF (20º degrees cooler than stock).
Any feedback guys? Any truth to SLPs claim? Is this chip different than the others? it is on clearance right now.
I also need your recommendation for air box mods. Looking to increase SOTP performance. Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.
Re: 93 Convt. Corvette MT mods. Help please. (gabmando)
Are you looking for something that would be about the same price as a PROM?
If so, I would suggest an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and one of Ed Wright's chips. K&N filter and an open filter lid. 160 degree thermostat. TB bypass
Otherwise...new ring and pinion gear for the differential. New cat-back exhaust. TPIS, Lingenfelter, or Hooker headers.

Wow. Thanx for the info. I think we'll do the ED Wright (?) Chip, and the K&N mods for now. Does ED have a web site? If not where do i find him? What is different about his chip?
His chips have a good reputation in the community. Next best thing to going really high-tech and having a custom PROM burned.
A new thermostat is $20, and a slightly messy install (coolant all over the place:D), but I think Ed has a chip in stock that covers light mods like airbox and thermostat.

I purchased a Ed Wright chip and Air Foil used last fall. Put them in and the only thing I really noticed was the fans coming on sooner, the TC not locking till 50mph but I really didnt notice a performance difference. (this is not my daily driver) Anyhow, I went to the track this spring and running same tires, pressure, approx. same outside temp. same track, and with Traction Control ON. I dropped from last years 13.49 to a 13.26 this year. With traction control off and a short hop on the tires I ran a best of 13.16 at 105.79 mph. So IMO the chip does help!! Good luck with your choice, but if it were my car I would start with 4.10 gears.
