water pump leak

water pump leak

my (LT1) water pump is leaking from the front cover. is this a quick fix? (gasket) or sign of worse things to come (water pump going bad) Anyone else had this problem?

The front cover uses a large O-ring type of gasket, but I've yet to see one leak. Are you sure that is the source of your leak and not the weep hole?

No, the weep hole is on the lower side.

Oh wow I never checked that for leaking when I reinstalled my WP. Whats the purpose of it?

I replace some gaskets on a 94 where the pump meets the cooling passages in the block, it was leaking there. 4 bucks a piece and my time, good as new.

Hi,
A leak on the top of the WP could also be from leakage/seepage around the top boltholes.
