What does the small runner on pass. side do (L98)?
My car is a 1991 auto L98 and I do not know what this thing does. I am having a severe drivability problem with my car... I replaced the stock runners with Lingenfelter runners and am not sure that I placed the runner that does not have a blocked hole for the small runner on the correct side (stock runners didnt have a small runner on driver's side but these just had bolts blocking off the little runner on the drivers side). So if I got these runners on the wrong side would that cause my car to die at idle. The car runs if you keep it above 1000 but even after it gets going it is very jerky while cruising. Thanks in advance...any opinions greatly appreciated!

The small runners on either side are for EGR. On earlier ('85-'88) TPI there was also a hole on the left side for the 9th injector.
If you look at the runners you will notice that the interface slot (to the base) differs from one side to the other so you can get them matched up correctly.
Put a vacuum gauge on a plenum fitting to see if idle vacuum is OK.

So if the runners were switched up would it cause the car to die at idle? I wish I had paid more attention when assembling the intake...on the outside these runners look the exact same but they aren't :mad .

The problem is the LPE runners have that EGR runner on both sides and when you order them for an 89-91 they internally block off the EGR runner that is a part of the drivers side runner (the bolt that blocks it off is near the bottom of the runner so even if the plenum is removed you cant see it unless you take it all the way off). So I wish I knew of a way to find out if the runner thats now on my passengers side has the bolt at the bottom blocking it off. Any suggestions?

i had drivability and idle problems after adding exhaust and removing my egr (stock tpi)
i fixed it by resetting my IAC and base idle. it was so bad i thought i was in need of reprogramming the chip, but now it drives and idles like stock,
just faster and louder :D

How do you reset the IAC and idle? I think that my problem is a computer or injector problem because my car is getting 9mpg whereas it used to get 14! (forgot to mention that in the original post). Don't you guys think that there must be something wrong with the injectors or ECM with that kind of mileage?
