I am getting ready to drop the zz4 in and I need a smaller balance. Any one have some recommendations? Or a part number. The old dampner is out of the question.
Hey one more thing, Did you have to go with after market timing cover? or just the timing pointer or will the zz4 cover work with the old ballancer?
Ok, 85 should be no problem on the intake. I think it was 87 when they changed the inner bolts on the heads/intake to be pointing straight up, vs angled like the end bolts. I think the Accel lower is drilled/milled for either set of bolts in the head.
I used an original style timing cover, in place of the ZZ4 composite (thick) cover. Most people have had to grind down the bolts on the ZZ4 cover to clear the Vette short water pump.
The aluminum head L98 engine (Corvette) never changed as far as the center bolts go. Only the iron headed F-body L98 heads changed. Doesn't sound like it would make a difference in your case though. If you are using your original '85 distributor and haven't done so already, make sure you change the gear on the distributor to a "melanized" gear or the cam will eat it up. The P/N for the balancer is 12551537 if memory serves correctly. That balancer is designed to be used with an old style timing pointer unlike the one built into the cover of the ZZ4. I don't think you can get the sheet-metal separate pointer to work with the new style plastic timing cover. If I think of anything else I'll drop back in here. -Jeff
