I have the throttle body and plenum off to put on an adjustable fuel reg.and
a 160 thermostat is it worth the hassle to remove the MAF screens? Has
anyone seen a performance gain?
Mine were very easy to remove, just take a utility knife and cut around the outside of the MAF where the plastic end caps are bonded and pop the plastic ring and screens right off.
Whew! What am I doing wrong here? I ran the utility knife around the line where the screens meet the main body of the MAF and it wouldn't come off.
Shoot, after about 1/2 hour, I even put in a new blade! Just kidding... :smash:
It's weird. I'll try this again later. And with the stock filter, is there a difference in flow? Or should I invest in a K&N?
You run the sharp knife blade around the ring groove for a whiel to cut through the adhesive. Then you may need to take a small flat screw driver blade to carefully pop the end caps loose, dut to some remaining adhesive.
I didnt really notice anything but then I also installed an LS1 MAF so... I did notice there was a little difference. The car ran a little rich till the computer got use to it.

I just pulled mine off with a pair of needle nose pliers. Came right off.

By all means…invest in a K&N! Get an open air lid for it too. :)
