I have an '88 automatic. During normal driving, the car handles fine but when you let off the gas the rear end sways to the right. When I get back on the gas the car then sways left. I have had it to several GM Dealerships and they can't find any problems. Took it to two front end shops - again no problems found. I have had a 4 wheel alignment and put on 4 new tires, but there is still no change in the sway. I hope someone out there can help. Thanks from Dr. Gray.
I agree with bogus. The torque takes up all of the cumulative slop in the bushings up on acceleration and unloads it on deceleration.
Many of the Corvette suppliers sell Polyurethane replacement bushings in a complete rebuild kit form.
Mine did that exact thing. People suggested tie rod ends being worn. Changed them...no effect. Found a bad u-joint in one of the half shafts. My sugestion: Change the half shaft U-joints. I could move the headlights left to right with just the throttle going down the highway at 60 mph in 5th gear.
I had the same problem, and searched for months to find the problem. It turned out being the wheel bearing assembly on the drivers side rear. It had about a 1/2 inch of in/out play. I suggest you look into it as soon as possible. I would also suggest that you check how tight your torque arm bolts are as well.
