Default Mufflers or not

Ive seen mufflers delete kits out there, is it a good idea to run a car without mufflers. If im not mistaken mufflers create back pressure.
Is this correct? Im going to leave to converter on, because i dont want the car to run rich..

Thanks

If you want it loud (its not going to be really loud, just louder), run without mufflers, if you want it quiet keep them...
I see you have an 1987 so I cant speak for you because I have personally only heard late C4s.

Also, you dont want back pressure, thats a myth, you want exhaust flow and scavenging... Different air flow will move the torque and hp curves a bit so it all depends. The engine is an air pump, the more air you can move in and out, the more gas you can add, and therefore make HP and Tq (thats really basic but you get the idea).
The exhaust system from the cats back on the late C4s is well designed so its not about gaining power, its about sound. The earlier C4 exhaust is different so I cant help you with that...

Im sure others will chime in...

I'd keep some kind of mufflers on it the muffler eliminators create a very annoying drone...

I live in Ca. I have cats and no mufflers. It sounds good. No problems whatsoever. Been this way for 10 years. I like it.

I have an '85 with the muffler eliminators. I still have the dual in/out cat converter but it may be gutted by the PO. The sound is nice and mellow. At highway speed it does have a bit of drone and with the normal road noise makes it tough for my old ears to hear the phone. Since your not supposed to talk and drive this shouldnt be a problem right? All in all, I like my set up and if you like the rumble without it being obnoxious IMHO it is a good choice.

i run my 94 with no mufflers and it sounds great. i dont get drone and its not overly loud. i honestly dont understand why people say such negative things about it. and as a side note, i have a full corsa system sitting in my garage that i could choose to put in but i like the eliminators better for my daily driver

I was running muffler elim's with cats, minus the resonator.....sounded mean (especially on the dyno). I later got a great deal on a used B&B system which is now matched with an X pipe, no cats, and longtubes--still mean, just a tad more civilized at WOT
