AC Delco fuel filter vs Fram
The AC Delco fuel filter is the ACD Part No. GF652F and is GM No. 89058397. The packaging indicates this item is "MADE IN THE USA".
Next week I will pick up a new AC Delco filter and cut it open and then cut open the Fram gas filter and take pictures and post them here for your review. (Taking one for the team Willie. If were are lined up against each other in the preliminary runs for Corvette Magic in June...can you give me a chance and let me have half the track before you put down the hammer
)
) and bought a new AC Delco fuel filter and cut it open.So here is what we have: AC Delco fuel filter GF652F GM Part # 89058397. Packages states it is made in the USA.
Fram fuel filter G3727, made in Mexico. Used - so the filter material is dark.
The AC filter is the top one, Fram below. Both filters were the same length and the same outside diameter.

Upon cutting each open I measured the depth of the pleats. Both filters have 1/2" deep pleats. I then counted the pleats:
Fram = 48 pleats

AC Delco = 33 pleats

The Fram filter is 2-5/16" tall whereas the AC Delco is 2-11/16".

The inside base of the AC Delco was 1-13/16" outside diameter and the Fram was 1-11/16".
I then cut out the paper filter material from each and measured the length. The Fram was 46-1/2" long and the AC Delco was 33-1/2" long.

So if we compute the total filtering area of each filter we come up with:
Fram = 107.53 square inches
AC Delco = 90.03 square inches.
Both filters had the material solidly anchored inside the housings. There were no open gaps of any kind to allow foreign materials to by-pass the filtering material.
So that is what I found cutting open two filters. This is not to say that out of the thousands that are produced there may not be some that are defective.
