Default Vortech V-1 Serial #04342

Hello,

I posted this over in the tech/performance section (didn't know this section existed) didn't get much of a response. I recently scored this polished V-1 Vortech Supercharger which supposedly came off of a Corvette. I was looking to install it on a stock L98 Corvette engine. I contacted Vortech today to see if I could find out any information on this unit and they were of no help what so ever. The serial number is #04342. The only thing they did tell me is that it is likely for a mustang but they are not even sure of that. Is there any way to make this unit fit a L98? does it work on an L98? Is it a good base to start with on a totally stock motor?

Dan

A serial number won't tell you what the application was for. On the Vortec website, there are 3 different models of the V-1 supercharger. Within each of these models, there are different types. Some rotate clockwise, some counter-clockwise and there are different discharge angles. There are different gear ratios (pulley sizes), and some have different boost values.

According to the Vortec website, there are no complete systems for any C4 or C5.

Installing any power adder like a blower, turbo, or even nitrous will pretty much require that everything in the engine is in good shape. Good bearings, good pistons and rings, bigger injectors and the ability of the fuel system to deliver the necessary fuel. Same with the intake; the engine will need more air. You will need a custom chip. The exhaust will need to handle the increased level of gasses going out. The Supercharger will need an intercooler so that has to be added and plumbed.

Installation of a blower is not a backyard job especially with these types of blowers. The install guide for the Vortec V-2 on my 02 was over 35 pages long and the shop labor was something like 17 hours.

As far as others that are knowledgeable in blowers, you might want to contact Lingenfelter or Doug Rippie. There should be a number of good performance shops on the east coast with experience in supercharger installs for C4's.

Expect to pay a lot of money.....

U need know if CW or CCW rotation. If CW you can use my hardware to install on the L98 Vette. Even with a blower in hand you'll spend $5K plus. If this amount is beyound your budget suggest U sell blower. The C4 platform actually is more expensive to "force" due to old pumps, injectors, etc. My C4 Sales Guide is on-line under my "downloads" section. U may also request one by e-mailing me: greg@blowerworks.net

I have it's cousin #4360 it was originally a Corvette "s" trim... I had it upgraded to a T-Trim through Greg a few years ago...

I would check with Vortech, but my gut feeling is it is probably an "S" trim.
