Default [700R4]: No 4th gear.

Here is a good one. :)

The daily driver (see sig, not the vette) no longer shifts into 4th. I've added fluid (might need more) and adjusted the TV cable. No go.

It shifts into 2nd and 3rd "ok", but not great.

So now I'm booming along at 3400 RPM at 75 MPH. I'm using WAY too much gas this way. Think the bands are burnt up for getting into 4th? 4th was working last week, and then I noticed it shifting in and out of 4th into 3rd every 15 seconds or so. Now it just gets to 3rd and stops.

Sounds like time for a rebuild.

OH MY GOD.....

The "B" Car has a toasted trans! Sheesh. Something doesn't want you to go anywhere with either car! 3-4 clutch pack is toast. It was on mine.

Why don't you guys just take the plunge and do a TH400/Gear Vendors conversion like I am doing? Oh ya, "it costs soo much." Well, I'm sure hoping I don't have to do 4 trannies in the next 3 years, or was that 3 trannies in 4 years? Anyhow, I took my car out for a test drive around the neighborhood today with the new setup. I'm thinking I'm gonna like this. That th400 is rock solid. I have to get the car to the exhaust shop to get new pipes bent before I can stomp on it.

Usually the 3/4 clutch pack takes out both 3rd and 4th gear. If the band is no good then 2nd and 4th gear go out.

Since only 4th is gone, maybe it is something minor.

Might be, but when my tranny went in my '85, 4th went first then within a week, 3rd went. I drove 35 miles to the tranny shop in 2nd gear!!!

Some areas were 50mph zones too!

Let's hope it stays together long enough to get the vette back together!

Mysteriously 4th gear decided to show up today after going down the highway for about 20 minutes. :) So far so good, and it's been working since.

It must of been the 2 quarts I added yesterday to it. Hehe...

Why don't you add a carb, and swap to a solid rear axle while you're in there.

Hey Scorp, I would do a fluid change while its working. My trans quite shifting into 3rd, I was about to take it back to the shop, and it started shifting again. So I changed the fluid, and was disgusted by the number of shavings in the oil. Several months and miles later, she's still doing fine.

Glad to hear its working again.

Maybe I will do that solid rear end and carb, but first I gotta take out he interior and weld the roof panel in.
