Well, haven't posted in a week or so- I've been a little pre-occupied. I dropped off my LT4 last week at MORE Performance in Charlotte, NC. Their shop is the nicest I've been to. The place is huge! They are unique in that they have their own machine shop and they do all of the machining themselves. Troy (their sales director) gave me a thorough tour of the shop. They have everything from a chassis dyno room to a cryogenics lab. The first person I met was the president, Mike Osucha when I accidentally stumbled into his office. I spoke with him for a WHILE, and he knows the LT engines like the back of his hand. He was the first tuner to do a 396 on a SB! All in all- Very impressive. They're going to tear down the engine and investigate what went wrong- I want to know out of curiousity. After that- They're building my 396!
For financial reasons (I've still got a year left of college) I'm having MORE do the bottom end only. I'll get the heads, etc. done soon. Besides- Mike thinks that I'll be looking at a HP rating of 450 with just the bottom end done. I can live with that!! :D The top end package will add around another 50- and that's with a mild cam.
MORE has about a three to four week turnover time, so I should have it back fairly soon. I'm counting down the days! I'll definately let you know what I think when I get it back. By the way- I AM going with the ceramic coated skirts like I posted about- thanks for your recommendations. If MORE's product is anything like their people/facility, I expect nothing but the best.
i would also be interested in how much youre paying for the labor and whatever materials you needed to buy, if you dont mind.
Total cost is under $8,000. I can't tell you an exact amount because it depends on what parts are salvageable- I'm hoping my block is still good. I'll know shortly.
Lamar- Thanks for the advice about MORE. I'll let you check it out when I get it back.
