Help Needed!
I need some assistance with the Evap & EGR area of operation, at least I think... I have a 94 that is shooting codes 13 & 26 with a check engin light on. It also surges very bad at times, some times more then others. Mainly this surging happens while cruising and I hear what sounds to be back firing, along with spitting and sputtering. If I place the car into nuetral and rev teh rpms it will run fine for a minute and then begin to spit and sputter again. If I pu the foot to the floor the car does not hesitate and runs very well. One more symptom I'm noticing is the idle is around 1500 RPM's in park and around 1000 when in gear. I have also noticed the car spits and sputters when going up hill, even a slight hill, but it will do this on flat ground too, may just be me over analyzing...
I replaced the Oxygen Sensor (code 13) hoping that it would correct the entire issue, since what I ready they both kinda work worth each other but it didn't fix the code 13.
I did disconnect the battery and confirm the codes were cleared. I then took the car for a drive and it began to spit and sputter after warmed up, idle (does not drop) I took the car on the Highway and opened it up. When I hit around 75 or so the engine light came on again. I pulled over and both codes were showing again 13 & 26.
I'm wondering if anyone has had a simillar issue. I did ome reading in my Haynes Manual and found info pertaining to the EGR and Evap system, however the manual tends to jump around and not really give any starting point. Only thing I saw was check solenoids, if bad change, and change ECM...
I also read a little on this forum that the Evap purge solenoid could cause this...Can the Evap purge canister solenoid or the EGR solenoid cause the Oxygen Sensor to trip and create a code 13?
Any suggestions and starting points are appreciated.
The car still did a spit and sputter a couple times but not nearly as bad as it was nor as frequent. I'm thinking that the hose I put on could be restricting air flow a little or may have a slight leak as it is 30 years old, but it was the only thing I had.
I took it or a drive and no engine lights came on even after taking it up to about 90. Hit the gas a few times just to see if it would trigger something and still no light!
Got home and checked the computer. It came up with the code 26 again, so i will replace the temporary hose with the correct hose and hopefully that will correct the issue.
