Ok I got a 84 X-Fire. It is very difficult to start when cold. It turns over after about a few seconds 5 -10 seconds it attemptas to start. After about 5 or more times interations of this it will start. Funny this is for the rest of the day the car will start on the first couple of seconds with out a problem.
Any ideas? Still getting great MPG, not stalling running fine after it starts.
It sounds like the fuel is draining out of the fuel lines, cfi's don't hold fuel pressure like the TPIs do. They do hold a volume of fuel though, try priming the system by cycling the key a couple time to see if it starts better.
CFI system DOES hold pressure between running...or at least it is supposed to. Try the suggestion above, and if that doesn't help the situation, shut off the motor and look to see if fuel is "leaking" through the injectors. A FP gauge is a helpful diagnostic tool here.
It's possible that your fuel pump relay is faulty too, and you're getting fuel pressure only after you build oil pressure. Can you hear the pump cycle (run for 2 seconds) when you turn the key ON?
