Default valve cover gasket dilema (Pics)

Hey guys,

Was going to replace my valve cover gaskets this eve but i seem to have a unique head, cover design.

The heads are edelbrock performer heads.

I got some fel-pro gaskets after reading around on here but i soon found out they wont fit. Does fel-pro make a gasket that will fit my application?

Thanks,
-Caleb

the old gasket looks like stock chevy perimeter gaskets, dont know bout the new ones, seems any stock chevy perimeter gasket would work,m if you havent destroyed the old ones you may be able to use some RTV and get them back on. otherwise get some perimeter gaskets.

So I'll need to just take the old gasket to the parts store and ask them to match it then i guess. I'd rather not use the old ones. Seems weird cause the gasket i got is the only one that i can find online at rockauto.com or summitracing.com

Any more ideas guys?

Since they're Edelbrock heads why don't you email them with the head part number and see what they recommend?

Does your valve covers have a valley where the gaskets fit or are they flat? Fel-pro gaskets will stretch and snap into the valley, but those fel-pro gaskets you have there are for the center bolt cv's....

Those new gaskets you show are not the right ones for your style heads.

Your heads are the traditional perimeter bolt design.
So regular Fel-Pro gaskets for the older style head should work.

Ask for valve cover gaskets for an older car/vette whatever that didn't have center bolt valve covers and they will work. Nothing special, just the wrong gasket there.

Just look at 85 350 standard perimeter gaskets. Good ones would be felpro Z1604 - cork steel cork gasket.

Your new gaskets are for centerbolt heads. You need perimeter. Sounds like you have it figured out. The centerbolt are 86 and newer style. The perimeter are the 85 and back style. Some heads like AFR are set up to use either style gasket.

It is the same valve cover gasket used on all small block chevy motors from 1955-1985.

Have Jim start on the build anyway. He's starting to build motors on credit. No payment due until the motor is delivered, the car running and time slips show low 11's. I heard Pete's motors are guaranteed for low 11's too, but he requires half up front.

I prefer the gaskets from an 83 Corvette. Very rare and expensive but totally worth it...
