Alright everyone, now is the time. :) I started taking the engine apart today after work. I got out....
Radiator
Ignition Wiring
EGR System
AIR System
All vacuum lines
One valve cover
Man, I could not believe it when I pulled the passenger side valve cover. Everything looks BRAND NEW. Keep in mind there are 166k miles on this damn thing. All the rockers, springs, retainers, everything look to be in completely excellent condition with just a slight goldish haze of oil coloring on them.
So this might take a while, I only have about 2.5 hours of daylight each day when I get home as long as it isn't raining.
Anybody know a good way to get the injector harness to pop off those bolts on the drivers side? The tabs do NOT want to come up no matter what angle I pry at them from.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! I Hope not. Not THIS time at least. :D
Any idea how the heck to get the driver's valve cover off. There is a metal vacuum line running from the brake booster to the plenum and it trails right over the back edge of the cover.
Good luck Scorp, mine looks like the engine bay up above right now, and has for quite some time. It all depends on weither your engine is driven properly and the oil changed regularly as to the condition inside. Factors like climate have a lot to do with it, my 76 BMW with 136000miles looked like brand new when I pulled the valve cover. Just remember that oil must get hot to clean the engine, so short trips really kill a motor. :smash:
Scorp,
To get the metal hose out of the way for the removal of the drivers side valve cover try this. Remove the rubber hose that goes to the power brake booster and bend the metal hose up. It is in a friction type clamp bolted to the end of the head.
For the injector wires the plastic tabs that hold it to the monifold will most likely break. Not a big deal, I don`t think that you can use it with the super ram anyways. They can just lay in there. Been there done that in my 87.
Remove the brake booster line from the back of the plenum and move it out of the way. Loosten the alt & AIR pump brackets and move these forward slightly. That should be enough to get the valve cover off.
BTW, with a 2.02" intake I assume you are also doing new valve seats.
If that cam is pretty big I can let you have my 7/16" 1.5:1 ProMagnums at a good price (still in the bubble).
I’m just curious, did you do a compression test before you ripped it apart? That’s a lot of miles. Do you ever sleep
Good luck with everything, I hope it turns out great
