One headlight wouldn't pop up on my 87 a few weeks ago--it went one-eye and stuck two different times and I thought it was totally broken. Today, when I tried the headlights, it popped right up.

I found some threads mentioning the bushings. Is that likely the reason for my intermittent problem? I found the sticky thread, but it seems to apply only to 88+ (plus, none of the pics displayed for me).

Thanks, as always!

on yours , its the same procedure to take them apart, but instead of replacing bushings , you replace the gears, if you do both gears at the same time , you'll be ahead on the agravation factor.

Make sure a loose wiring harness isn't the simple cause too. If one of the harnesses down in the well (by the horns) is no longer tied off it can snag the light.

If it is a bad gear that is a great article. In my case it turned out that the gears were fine but the switch inside the motor was not making good contact. A small piece of sandpaper between the contacts and all was well.

Thanks, much!

That corvette magazine article is great.

And thanks for the tip on the contacts, hbarclay (I always like to start simple).

The headlight has been popping up right on cue the past couple of days, so the situation is not quite as urgent (and will take a back seat to other repairs I'm already in the middle of), but all of this info will be a great help when I tackle it soon.

As always, you all
