Air Conditioning not working. need help.
the A/C used to work, but i cant remember the last time it did.
i spend so much time deployed/away from home i don't get to work on it as much as i would like.
i do not know vary much about my car's A/C system, and at the moment i dont really have time to read up on it.
so what normally goes wrong with the C4's a/c system?
it blows hot air all day long but i cant seem to get it to cool down. i've tryed recharging the system and it did nothing. im not sure if its the compressor, but if so...$$$ from what i have found on the web.
i have thought about taking to a shop, but i like to work on the car myself, just a hobby. and most of the time its cheaper to do it yourself.
any info would be helpfull, thanks!
Try turning it on and listening for the click when the A/C engages. If it doesn't turn on then check that all your electrical connections are plugged in tight.
I assume your car has the C-68 Automatic A/C control head. Most 1990's did. If so you can use it to determine if any trouble codes (among many parameters) have been set.
You press the up and down fan controls at the same time and hold them for ~5 seconds. This will display 00 on the readout. You then press the up or down fan control to cycle through the different choices. Pick one and press the center fan control to display the information.
First the HVAC Diagnostic codes

Another major problem with the Corvette A/C is the C-68 control head button's contacts getting dirty causing a failure.
A fairly easy fix:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-g...on-repair.html
Over 90% of the problems with the control head can be fixed very easily by doing what is described in the link!
This usually fixes the problem. One tip: After you remove the unit and it is on your bench (kitchen table, etc) spread a towel on the surface and place the head on it. Then start your dis-assembly. That keeps tiny screws and parts from rolling onto the floor and getting lost.
also if anyone knows someone in NC i could go to if i cant get it done.
