In winter, it stays in the garage with a battery maintainer plugged in. Today was a nice day so I thought I'd drive the car some.
Here's a sequence of events what happened when I tried to start it:
Opened the door, lights nice and bright.
Got in and switched on the ignition - display came alive like normal.
Twisted the key to start and I got a "fizz, click, click" sound from the front somewhere under the hood.
Checked the battery and the positive terminal was a little loose so I tightened it.
Got back in and I could hear a high pitched squeal coming from the dash.
I switched on the ignition again and no display.
Twisted the key and no noise, click, nothing.
I checked all the fuses and they seem to be OK. One curious thing is that when I remove the fuse for the "LCD" the squealing stops. Another thing that's confusing is that I can hear the noise even when the ignition is off.

VATS? Buzz could be the alarm relay.
I know my horns are disconnected and when I don't open the car in the correct sequence I hear the buzz until I reset everything
You still have a poor battery cable connection (remove cables, neg first and clean cable lugs battery terminals, bolts and replace, neg last) OR.... your battery is toast. Remove the maintainer and measure the battery voltage at the battery terminals, 12.0 volts and lower, discharged, charge your battery up overnight with a battery charger. 12.9 volts and higher, fully charged and linear in between. Turn on the headlights and measure the battery voltage, it shouldn't budge when the lights come on. The buzzing you hear is a relay in the dash that chatters under low battery voltage. A poor cable connection will not allow a battery maintainer to keep the battery up and your battery is now sulphated or it is at the end of its life.
OK, thanks, I'll check it out today. I will say however, that even though I'm not getting the dash display, everything else is working, bright lights, interior lights, horn, etc...
No flickering or dim lights anywhere.
