I got a c4 1988 convertible and the 5amp fuse at the fuse panel under the LCD blows. Where is the short? I tried all possiblities and I need to consult the forum for a simple answer.I used a test light and the light stays on indicating that there is a SHORT.The coolant sensor switch insulator seems to be cracked . Could this be the problem.

The coolant sensor does go to the cluster but it does not have 12v on it from the LCD fuse. Proof would be the fuse holding up if you unplug the coolant sensor. You have a short somewhere from after the LCD fuse to inside the cluster. I'd say you have a short in the switching supply inside the cluster. This supply generates about 100 volts to operate the liquid crystal display.
