Default 4L60E tranny problem

It only works in 1st, 2nd, and reverse. What happened? Is it the 2-3 upshift servo? It has almost 200 K on it and we're ready to pull it out and rebuild it. What are some good upgrade parts to put in it? Thanks

Not that I can help a whole lot, never tore down an auto, but, you will be asked anyway..
What does it do? Meaning does it slip in 3rd or OD or refuse to go into those gears and just stays in 2nd. What car is it in? In an E transmission the computer tells it when to shift and you should be able to log the ECM and see the shift requests..

I'd hazzard to guess you've stripped / broke your sun shell. It's a typical 700R4/4l60E failure point.

The 3-4 clutch pack is a likely culprit.

Check out the rebuild kits on the below site. I used the street/strip one when I rebuilt mine.

Thanks guys. I found a really good thread on rebuilding a 700 which lead me to many links which just about answered all my questions.

I have found out that 9 times out of 10 the solenoids are not the problem. It's probably the 3-4 clutch pack. Mad Dog Transmission and Monster Transmissions seem to have a good handle on these 4L60E trannys. All the upgrades included.
