Default Wiper Adjustments?

I'm having some trouble getting my driver's side wiper properly adjusted. Right now it is hitting the window trim moulding by about 3/8". I have adjusted it as far as it will go in the other direction and its still hitting the trim.

Any ideas on how to get the wipers properly adjusted?

I had this problem. Went to Autozone and purchased a shorter wiper arm by 1 inch. It's worked great for about 8 years.

Thanks for the tip; its probably a good one. But, I'm trying to get the car ready for an NCRS Performance Verification and I must have the original 20" wipers on it to pass the PV.

A friend recommended that I take the wiper off of the nesting stop which will allow the wiper to be adjusted farther to the passenger side thereby allowing it to stop 1/2" short of the windshield trim. Sounds reasonable, but I don't want to bend up perfectly a good wiper arm if it does not work out. Has anyone had experience with these adjustments?

The instructions from the service manual combined in one picture is shown below. Don't know if this will help you much, there really isn't a ton of info in the shop manual for this.

I'm assuming you made the adjustment under the plastic screen, at the linkage? I would say that if you can't get the correct alignment with this, there is something amiss in the arm (maybe bent?) or the linkage. My experience with several GM cars of the 80's and 90's is that the linkage gets kind of loosey-goosey and sounding like a piece of farm equipment.

Thanks Wilcox

Your illustration was very helpful. By taking the driver's side wiper off of the nesting stop I was able to adjust the wiper to within 30 mm of the windshield trim. This is within the guidelines found in your spec sheet. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - THANKS MUCH
