For all the people who say Flowmaster is too loud, check out the YouTube link below. This is something I've been looking for. Not much difference between stock and the Flowmaster, at least on this guy's 396 LT1 with no cats:
I put the "quietest" Flowmasters on my 2003 Ford Crown Vic(P71) which is my daily.I regret it as its too quiet. Not much loaded than stock.Go with the loudest/most aggressive Flowmasters you can get.I would have gotten the loudest Flowmasters if I could do it all over again.Nobody can tell that I spent the extra money
I would conclude that if you want the Flowmaster sound, anything other than the catback from Flowmaster is going to create too much drone. In other words, if you go cheap and just replace the factory mufflers with universal Flowmasters, you may regret it if you don't like the inside of the car vibrating to some extent.
I used to have Flowmaster race mufflers (1 or 2 chamber, but VERY small, 3" thick). I was satisfied at first, but then over time, got very tired of all the interior resonance and drone.
Now I've got the factory system back in place but I think it's a little too quiet. The catback system from Flowmaster appears to be a good compromise between good tone but not too loud sound.
The factory cats will keep the drone and noise levels to acceptable in most cases.Run aftermarket hi flow cats and it gets annoying quick.
I have never liked the flowmaster sound. The only tolerable one imo is the force II.
