Default C4 Issues

I have a friend that owns a 1990 model convertible and has two issues he could use some help on: (1) the center brake light that is mounted in the rear cap is not working, probably a bulb - but how does one get to the light to replace the bulb? Do you go through the gas cap door, removing the plastic cover and reach in? and (2) the release for the convertible top, the back window part, a button behind the seat will not release the back portion of the top. We can hear the solenoid work, but it does not release the top. We released the top from the windshield thinking taking some pressure off might help, but it didn't. Any help would be appreciated. At this point, he has a vert but can't go topless!!

The center stoplight bulb is serviced by removing the license plate and reaching up to the socket.

Re the convertible release issue- your post is a little confusing- to release the rear of the convertible top, reach behind the driver's seat, under the rear deck lid, to find a pull handle. When this is pulled, it releases the two latches that secure the rear of the top into the deck. This is cable operated, not electric. Once these latches are released, raise the rear portion of the top. Open the deck lid by pressing the button on either door, inside the console lid, or under the deck lid behind the driver's seat. THIS is when you will hear the solenoid. Raise the rear lid, let the rear of the top down to its normal position, and, with the windshield latches released, fold the top rearward. Then, close the rear hatch.

Thanks - I didn't look at how they were trying ot unlatch the top but apparently they don't know how to do it. I'll look at it tomorrow. They were apprently hitting the button for the deck lid release. This is the first Corvette they have owned and I've personally never owned a convertible (I'm a Z06 guy). He has had the top down but hadn't had it up for a long time and apparently forgot how! He's an older guy.
