It wouldn't be the end of the world to run 2 brands, especially if they had similar traction ratings etc, would be even less noticable if they were staggered sizes too..

For the "average" driver that doesn't corner hard and push the car more than 50-60% of what it is capable of doing you will never notice a difference - for someone that is autocrossing or running open track events then it's going to have effects on handling that may be unpredictable at the limits and change the handling characteristics of the car.

SO - figure out what type of driving you do and purchase accordingly...

Different tires handle differently, sidewalls are different and rubber composition is different. Straight line runs are no problem, autocross or aggressive back road driving you had better have matching tires...WW

well, this tire shop is checking to see if they can get the same tires, but it looks like the tire is disconntinued. I may have to settle for a different tire tread on the back.

Would you consider mixing brands of oil in the same oil change?

I mean, its about the same color and slippery.

Of course tires are black and round.........

If your gonna mix brands, at least buy a set that has a chance of matching up later on.

Kind of an odd comparison isn't it? If someone asked should they mix cat food, it would be like using the suggestion "you wouldn't breed a horse with a guinea pig would you?"

Seriously, look for 3 things.
All brands of tires can have very different looks from the side, try to come close for esthetics.
Avoid mixing a stiff side walled performance tire with a soft side walled touring tire, it might be squirrly
Try to pick a brand that has a size to match your front for later so you can match back up..

Or, go with something like a Rikken Raptor which at $100 a bone doesn't make you think twice about lighting them up!

It is amazing how some will attempt to make a point.

Listen, you own a performance automobile.
Why then would you even attempt to skimp on the most important part of the car?

Some would never consider using anything less than premium fuel even though the engine doesn't need it.

Then why in God's name would anyone even consider mixing tire brands/quality? Or only replacing shocks on one end of the the car.

Just doesn't make for good common sense.

It's like watching Honda owners chain up the rear tires.
Ya wanna roll down the window and yell out "hey stupid!"
But then thats not very nice....

JrRifleCoach, this could make a whole different thread if allowed to get out of hand. To avoid going down a different path, keep in mind many if not most C4 owners are anything but rich. The OP is probably no different and looking for options that won't put him in the ditch or break his car or budget. I am curious (besides oil and horses), what damage do you see happening to his Vette if he puts a compatible tire on the rear until his perfectly good front tires are worn and can be matched up?

Not trying to be a PR here, just want to understand your view since I would have no issues myself doing so until my fronts are shot too. Can't personally use pride of ownership as an excuse to waste that kind of money. Since the OP asked the question, it means he isn't sure and wants experienced help. You may have meant otherwise, but your reply would leave a person to think they will destroy something on their pride and joy by putting Goodyears on the back when it has Uniroyals on the front.
