Default A Question for the ZF crowd...

When shifting from 1st to 2nd at or above 4000 rpm I wind up grinding the shift. It doesn't matter if I pause or not. But it only happens in 2nd at that rpm. Any ideas? BTW.. stock shifter, orig. clutch(I believe) and 52k miles.

It sounds like the Syncs are a little loose... it doesn't seem to happen in mine but I either shift at 1500 or 5500 :D

When I am in first and dont go above 3k, cags will come on, If I try to pull it out of 1st it will grind.

If i push in clutch for a second or to the "1st to 4" light goes off, and I can shift into second.

My second gear syncro went out a few years ago from drag racing at the strip. (actually, it was my fault on the strip) But anyway, I could shift into second at any RPM when rolling without the grind.
But don't let this go too long. You'll end up screwing up more than just the syncros. And internal parts for the ZF aren't cheap.
Check out http://www.zfdoc.com or http://www.whiteracingproducts.com both deal with ZF-6 rebuilds and they are both good companies.
