I'll bet when you get them off you will either see something like the pictures of the head with a blown gasket or a VERY small area that is discolored. My leak was a very small area!

Once you have the heads off you might as well take them to the local machine shop and have them cleaned, valve stem seals replaced and checked. When I had mine off last (100K heads) I had them do that + valve job and new springs because I was going to 1.6 rockers.

I really wasn't to excited about that sealant but figured for $20 it was worth a try. I plan on tearing it apart one night this week and having the heads done while I am at it. I will keep every one posted.

Does anyone know which head gasket kit is the best one to use. I see that Felpro has a gasket kit with everything needed or so it says. Anyone have any problems with a certain gasket?

Default update

Replaced the head gaskets and all other items that were needed car seems to be running fine cruising down the road temp run between 190-196 I assume due to the thermostat opening and closing while driving. Sitting in the drive way the temp climbs up fan kicks on then shuts off after temp lowers. Is there anyway to change the setting for the fans coming on @ 226-230 just seems too high to me. I am not losing water out of the overflow now so looks like replacing the head gaskets did the trick.
Thanks to everyone for the help.

Good going, only about a month of down time...you did good..

Did you take any pics?

Your coolant system is probably working normal now, I would just drive it, and keep an eye on it.

Just out of Curiosity how does the car run now; compared to before. Mine had a slight dead spot during acceleration that completely went away with the new gaskets. I also eliminated valve train noise with the new Intake valve guides.

Car seems to be running fine I did not notice any dead spots during acceleration. I drove it to work today in town with A/C on temp stayed around 196 cruising, would get just over 200 sitting at stop light then come right back down as I started driving again. I didn't take any pictures did the work at a friends house since he has an air compressor and air tools and forgot about picutres it was one of things where he called me and said bring your car over and we will tear it apart. I didn't waste anytime jumped in and drove over.
