Broken Shifter

Default Broken Shifter
Ok so here is the situation. I was coming out of the bank yesterday and when i put my car in drive the button on the shifter stayed down. I pryed it out with a screw driver but the metal rod stayed down and i was able to shift freely without having to push the button in. When i put the car in park i have to pull that metal rod out with a pair of pliers. Can someone help me with this one? where do I start??

you have a broken spring, you need to remove your shifter cover plate and either put it back cause it came loose or replace it, you may wind up needing another shifter
