Does anyone know about the OTC 2000 scanners for OBD I cars? I see quite a few of them on Ebay for around $75 and I was wondering if they are worth the price or if I would be better off with something like the Diacom software. Just asking for your opinions since I don’t know enough to form my own at this point.
depends if you want to just look or change programs. the scanners will only display information and clear trouble codes. I believe diacom is a programming tool. I do not know about the OTC but Scanners are very helpful I paid nearly $200 for the Auto X-ray and am very happy.

I bought the AutoXray too. I paid $160.+ tax at Kragen Auto Supply......I found that to be about the cheapest price for one. and it is a great tool for pulling codes and giving paramiters for sensors. :yesnod:
I to, have auto x-ray. The only problem I have with it is trying to figure out what all the data means. This is not a problem with auto x-ray, it is just a lack of understanding on my part. I have studied the factory manual to some degree, but wish I could find a few good books on the topic.
I own and use the OTC 2000 everyday at work (I'm a mechanic), and I love it. With an upgrade you can also use it on all OBD II cars. The cool thing with the scanner is that you can hook it up and drive the car and record the data (if it has a drivablity problem). Then just review it later.
Good luck,
Joe

Re: OTC Scanner (pabarny)
pabarny, I'm not sure your question has been answered. I also have no personal knowledge of the device you have asked about.
However if you are looking for a decent scanner at a low cost, my experience is that the auto x-ray is a great value for around $200.00 or perhaps a bit less if you work the internet. For $500.00 or so this same scanner will work with almost all cars OBDI and OBDII. It is the best value that I found.
The 2000 will work just fine with the correct chip, mine goes to 1990, GM Ford and Crysler (thats the way I spell Chrysler). It will require a fuel injection cable that is still available, the standard GM cable will not work, I think it was $23.00 two years ago. I don't have the number here, It's at work. It will access the data stream in real time an will snap shot. You can not make changes to the eproms with it. I dont think you can with any scanner to OBD I cars. Thats why you need an eprom burner. I have had mine for fifteen years and it will sometimes get failures that more expensive scanners will miss (IE Techone and Prolink). It is well worth the $75.00 if it comes with a chip that covers your model year.
