What Ramps?

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

)Here's what I did, after seeing a tech tip in this forum....
I built my own ramps. I got the idea from the techtips section. Plus, I really, really, really, needed a low-clearance option that the Rhino ramps might not have addressed.
My ramps are built from 2x12's and separate once the car is driven to the top pedestal....

After I get to the top pedestal, I'm finally able to get a standard floor jack (and stands) underneath. However, you could easily change oil and perform other duties with just these wood ramps.
Note the handles for ease of carrying!!!

BTW,,,I need a better latch system for the two halves. I may switch to a drop-pin or something. And, here's that thread I was talking about above (in case you don't want the challenge)......

My technique is to run the front wheels up on 2" boards then put a small trolley jack under the front to lift the suspension and then I slip the bigger trolley jack underneath and jack it up till I can get the car stands and/or ramps underneath.

the historical threads are fun to read.
i spent the first few months here on c4 reading through most of them.
much knowledge and experience permanently posted.
those wooden ramps are very nice.
i use old steel ramps sometimes.
i back my my vette up onto them.
dont have to worry about ripping my front lower airdam off.
i just thought of it one day. back my vette up and place the rear wheels onto to the ramps.
i can hang my head out the window and see easily too, my vette backing up the ramps.
you get a surprising amount of working room underneath too.
just short of having your vette up on 4 jackstands.
try it sometime that way. its easier than you think. and very safe too.
chock up the front wheels just in case for safety.

I cut my boards with a compound miter saw.
I used what I had laying around they were 2 x 6's,it would work better using 2 x 8's,as you can see there not as wide as the ramps.I matched the angle of the ramp so when the tires hit the edge of the ramp and board it didn't kick the board up,They work great. The bocks behind my ramps are just for extra percaution just in case I over shoot the ramps.
Cheap and easy. You can find those metal ramps at many flea markets.
