Thanks, Valve, but I was thinking on a smaller scale; something like this:

Don't even consider Rhino Ramps, you could place them in front of the tires and chase them down the block & never get up on them.

This is one of the easier topics to find lots of historical threads. I hit 36 in Tech alone -- just by looking for ramps in the title. There's one thread with "homemade" and "ramps" in the title that has one of the most extravagent setups I've ever seen. (I'll let you use search, as practice, to see if you can find it! )

Here's what I did, after seeing a tech tip in this forum....

I built my own ramps. I got the idea from the techtips section. Plus, I really, really, really, needed a low-clearance option that the Rhino ramps might not have addressed.

My ramps are built from 2x12's and separate once the car is driven to the top pedestal....

After I get to the top pedestal, I'm finally able to get a standard floor jack (and stands) underneath. However, you could easily change oil and perform other duties with just these wood ramps.

Note the handles for ease of carrying!!!

BTW,,,I need a better latch system for the two halves. I may switch to a drop-pin or something. And, here's that thread I was talking about above (in case you don't want the challenge)......

X2 on the Kwiklift. I bought it from a friend that was upgrading to a 4 poster. Man, how did I ever get along without it?

Ray - do the Race Ramp allow you to pull up without clipping the front spoiler? Also, are they high enough? The photo looks like they are only 3" high. If so, is this high enough for routine maintenance?

Pete, they do not clip the air dam, but aren't really high enough to do much other than allow you to get a jack under and raise the front high enough for jack stands. If I wasn't so, let's say thick, I could probably do an oil change under them.

Very innovative. My 87 is very low too.

My technique is to run the front wheels up on 2" boards then put a small trolley jack under the front to lift the suspension and then I slip the bigger trolley jack underneath and jack it up till I can get the car stands and/or ramps underneath.

the historical threads are fun to read.
i spent the first few months here on c4 reading through most of them.
much knowledge and experience permanently posted.

those wooden ramps are very nice.
i use old steel ramps sometimes.
i back my my vette up onto them.
dont have to worry about ripping my front lower airdam off.
i just thought of it one day. back my vette up and place the rear wheels onto to the ramps.
i can hang my head out the window and see easily too, my vette backing up the ramps.

you get a surprising amount of working room underneath too.
just short of having your vette up on 4 jackstands.

try it sometime that way. its easier than you think. and very safe too.
chock up the front wheels just in case for safety.

I got the ramps at advanced auto for about 30 bucks, don't recall the brand off hand
I cut my boards with a compound miter saw.
I used what I had laying around they were 2 x 6's,it would work better using 2 x 8's,as you can see there not as wide as the ramps.I matched the angle of the ramp so when the tires hit the edge of the ramp and board it didn't kick the board up,They work great. The bocks behind my ramps are just for extra percaution just in case I over shoot the ramps.

Probably a lot of us have had the same idea, which is to build auxilary ramps from 2X8 boards to gradually raise the car up to the level where it will go onto regular ramps. I have a pair of those old red metal truck ramps, and to secure the aux ramps to them I have drilled a hole in the metal ramps and put a large bolt through each wooden ramp so the bolts fit into the holes and lock them together.

Cheap and easy. You can find those metal ramps at many flea markets.

Thanks, Todd. I bought my Rhino Ramps yesterday at Advanced Auto for $31 including tax. They are the new style which have rubber stops on the bottom to keep them from sliding out from under your tires. I am now in the process of cutting the 2"x6" pre-ramp boards.

Thanks for a great tip and how to photos

Default Don't try this with wooden ramps....

Reverse Logic Limited sells elegant lightweight Race Ramps solutions manufactured by Brute Industries. We offer the entire standard Race Ramps products line as wells as specialty RLL-87-2 and RLL-72-2 two-stage incline ramps with integrated XTenders. The RLL-87-2 ramps also have an available Trailer Ramp Adapter that converts the incline sections of the ramps into Trailer Ramps.
