Hi all-
Time to replace the rotors (All four) on the Vette (1994 LT-1, base suspension not HD or Z-51) I’m looking for an upgrade in the rotors-what would you recommend and why?
This Vette is drivin on clear weather weekends and might be put to use in some auto crossing this summer. I would like to stay in the stock class.
I would just replace with stock. While I don't think it effects your autocross class, the stock rotors will do just fine. Go to your local part dealer and get the gm replacement or the better brand. I started autocrossing last year with 124k on the car and about 5k on the stock gm rotors they worked just fine, even boiled the brake fluild. (I now use synthic dot 3 / 4 from valvoline, but the oriiginal fluild was old at the time.) The stock rotors are easlier to maintain as they don't crack like the drilled, and you don't have to worry about using the parking brake at the track, while I do avoid using it until the brakes cool a little bit. Replace pads with the ceramic pads, they cost more but last longer and may work a little better than stock.
I just bought some rotors from checkers/oreily. I checked the parts number and it turned out to be raybestos, which is fine. Rotors, as long as they are cut true make no real difference, unless you want it to look good. Brembo, Bendix, Napa, Raybestos etc are fine. Check out RockAuto, as they show you all the different brands and prices in one page.
Pads and fluid make the real difference on stopping. Hawk pads HPS make your Vette stop significantly faster, time after time.
I'll be sticking with a name brand rotor, I'v seen too many friends try to take the cheap way out with no-name pads and rotors only to hear them cry a few months later because their rotors warped or their pads cracked, disintegrated or squealed like a pig. .

Look at KNS brakes. I just bought some rotors from there. Ken is a good guy to deal with a very knowledgeable. I like DBA rotors because they can take some heat and last.
