New member here. Great site with guys that know their stuff! Just purchased a nice, clean black/black 94 coupe. I need to replace the console shift plate bezel. In order to do so, I need to removal the shift ****. Can anyone tell me how to do so?.
I believe you pry the button out and theres a small snapring inside , mine 'gently slips over it with out removing it, just have to work it back and forth a bit. this is for an auto
Manual? Pry off the shift pattern plate and there's a metal wedge you can remove with vice-grips. Mine was tough to get out, but it eventually pulls straight up.
Also, in the case of a manual, there is a slip ring that locks out reverse, if you have to remove this, it has a setscrew on the aft side of the shift lever.
I do not think the 94's had the reverse lock-out any more.
The wedge is in there really tight. Use vise grips on it and then a hammer on the vise grips. Small taps and watch-out that you do not hit the mirror when the wedge lets go.
