Brake question
Had an unsettling thing happen yesterday. Had an occassion to really nail the brakes from about 80 mph to a dead stop (I'm talking as extreme as braking gets). The right front belched out a ton of smoke however, it didn't slide the tire and it stopped straight and true. Got it home, removed the tire and checked everything. The rotor isn't warpped, the pads look okay. There were a few very small traces of grease or oil on the inside of the rim. The bearings are fine (tight, no movement top to bottom, side to side), there is no indication they are slinging grease. Is it possible there may have been something on the pads?

Could have been oil (from oil change??) or grease on the rotor or caliper. A stop like that will generate a few hundred degrees and vaporize any fluids stuck to them. Normal stops won't get anywhere near that temperature.
