Re: Is a Hypertech ThermoMaster chip worth it?? (Dudeurgettnavette)
I have the Hypertech Thermomaster chip and it has really helped. You will have to put in a 160-degree thermostat with it. I would suggest you get a fan switch also, but as far as noticing increased performance (butt dyno) I would have to say yes. Obviously my engine runs cooler, in fact on a hot day here in Florida with the AC running it rarely gets over 175 degrees. The chip not only adjusts the spark and fuel curves over the entire RPM range for more torque but also allows the ECM to recognize the mods without wigging, allowing your engine to run more efficiently.
Now to prove to some that may say, “the 160-degree thermostat and the fan switch did all the work.” I can say that I put the 160-thermostat and fan switch in first and the engine ran like S#!T! I then added the Hypertech Thermomaster chip and the engine purrs like a cat now, not to mention I get better gas mileage along with the performance boost. The chip has been in my car well over a year and still performes.
Now having said that, the Hypertech Thermomaster chip is not designed to add 100 HP to your car, if you have a wildly modified engine get something else but if you have a stock or mildly mod’ed engine the Hypertech will help without question. It will add noticeable performance and for the price is definitely worth it. Hell they only cost about $160 through Auto Zone. Can’t beat that for what you get! I am sure there are better chips out there but they cost a HELL of a lot more too. ;)
Re: Is a Hypertech ThermoMaster chip worth it?? (Dudeurgettnavette)
I installed a 160 degree and a Hypertech chip in my 1992 a couple of years ago. I thought it did a world of good, that is until I got a custom Ed Wright chip a couple of months ago to replace the Hypertech chip. I had added some mods (see sign) sense I got the Hyperchip and wanted a bit more out of a chip then theirs. With the new custom Ed Wright chip, the fans come on at 193 degrees and go off at 183 degrees. I also added 24lb SVO injectors, which mad it run rich. New chip fixed that problem also. I also had a idle problem with the Hypertech chip, which the Ed Wright chip took car of also. I had the idle set to 850 rpms. The Ed Wright custom chip is a bit pricey, but I can send it back to get it updated when I get the engine rebuilt this month. :flag
