Just crawled under my 96 today to spray some bolts in advance of installing my muffler elims later today... I was surprised to see the mufflers and rear Ypipe are all one unit. Is there anything special to do or measure when cutting the rear y pipe for the aftermarket mufflers? Just don't want to make a mistake and ruin the rear y pipe.
I was contemplating doing the same thing myself. You might want to drop the entire system and hold the eliminators on top of the existing pipes to get the length.....then cut them a little long just in case. I'm dying to find out if you'll love them or hate them and the drone level.

Thanks,
I've been looking for a set of used, but good condition lt1 mufflers. If you are interested in selling them once you install the elims, let me know.
I put on Magnaflow axle back SS mufflers on my 95 and borrowed a exhaust cutter from Autozone, I just kind a held them up under the old ones to see where to cut. Are you going to have no mufflers at all ?
Ok, all set... installed and took it for a test drive but, not sure it's the sound I was expecting. I installed Allen's chambered eliminators because I take the Vette to work once a week and have to back out of my garage and drive up the street at 5:30 am without waking up my family or the neighbors. I was nervous straight pipe eliminators would be too loud. These definitely have a deeper tone than stock muff's but, they're only slightly louder. I had it up to 55mph and there's absolutely NO drone at all in the cab.
Any chance chambered mufflers get louder as they break in?? These are straight through pipes but, with a chambered tube inside it. Because they have no packing to "wear in", I'm not sure if the sound will get any deeper or louder with a few miles...
Just like Joe, I held them up underneath the stock mufflers and marked where to cut the stock y pipe. I cut the pipe with a sawzall and short metal blade with no issues. Bolted everything up and I'm happy with the quality and fit.
I will be keeping a eye and a ear out for you Chris, I'm in the lower part of Langhorne between New Falls and Trenton Rd. I am a member of Liberty Region Corvette Club in Bensalem.

Hey Joe- I'm in that area all the time! I live on Bensalem Blvd, about 1/2 mile from New Falls rd. I have a 96 CE with black Grand Sport wheels and GS fender stripes. Let me know what you're driving and I'll look out for you as well!
I see in you're also in CCDV? My dad is in that club and we're at most of their shows and the annual hot dog run. I'm sure I'll see you around soon.
