Default Correct direction for directional tires

I have Goodyear Eagles on my 99 hard top. They were original equipment from a 2004 Z06. I had them off to do some work and as I was remounting the tires I noticed that the direction of the inner tred on the fronts did not match the direction of the inner tred on the rears. I would assume that these tires are directional and either the fronts or rears have been swaped. Probably my mistake, but how do I determine which direction is correct. The inner tread is the rain tred and it has a "V" shape. The question is does the point of the V have to point forward or rear?

Can anyone help me?

Charlie

I have figured this out. Thanks for everyone's responses. What I have determined is the inside pattern is not actually a V shape. It is a slash. When you look at the slash it appears to be a V as it lines up with the other pattern to the outside. The slash is in oppisite directions for each side of the car and rotating the tires does not change that. So my conclusin is these Goodyear Eagle F1 tires are not directional and I don't have a problem.

Thanks,

Charlie

If they are directional the tire will have an arrow or lettering saying inside and outside. The front and back tread may be different depending which side of the car they are on.

Kimmer, The tires do have instructions indicating which side should face out, but there is no arrow or any indicator showind which direction is forward. Since they did not have the arrow I though they were not directional, but the tire pattern on the incide half has a clear pattern that can pont forward or backward. It seems to me that all 4 tires should have this pattern facing in the same direction, but which direciton?

Generally, if the tread has a V pattern... the pointy end of the V goes toward the front (the direction of travel).

I have a couple of sets of the stock Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.

They are directional and have the word "rotation" with arrows >>>> to show which way the tires should point.

They are not assymetrical and the sidewall does not state one side in or out.

I hope it helps.

Mine were the base C5 tires so I am not sure if they are the same as the C5 Z06, but the sidewall should state what to do.

Every directional tire I've ever seen had some type of marking indicating which way they should be mounted.
Look at the sidewall closely and you should find something like on of these pictures.

Not all Eagles are directional. The Eagle GT, for example, has these markings:

< < < Eagle GT > > >

Which is pretty indicative that it's not directional.

Google the specific tire model and see if it's directional.

Then it doesn't matter as long as you have the correct side out. My autox tires are like that, oneside out but can rotate either direction and the direction of the tread pattern can be different.
