i see where to make ASR timing changes in the ecu programming. but, the system also reduces throttle. is there a way to affect that? has anyone tried the timing changes, and if so, is it still smoother even with the throttle reduction?
barring all that, is there an off the shelf throttle cable that can be used to bypass (and remove) the whole ASR system? ('96 6-speed)
actually, the biggest problem is that i forget to turn it off before making an auto-x run, then i'm stuck fumbling for the switch in the middle of the first turn. ;)
I believe you can disable ASR with LT1_Edit... not sure if you're using it, but you are in the ECM/PCM Tuning section ;)
If you are just data logging, then may I ask what you're using? I've got EFI Live headed my way in a week or two (they're finishing up testing on new MPA's). Just curious as to what the OBDII guys are using.
dan, i am using lt1_edit. problem is, turning the traction control off in the programming doesn't really turn it off. hence my questions. i was hoping there were some parameters that could be tweaked far enough to never have ASR kick in.
(edit)- actually, i think my number one choice is to remove the whole system, and find a production throttle cable to take its place. but, the asr and cruise control might be tied in, and i don't want to lose cruise control. anyone know?
turning it off via lt1_edit does nothing. it still behaves identically, as if no programming changes were made. in both cases, turning it off with the interior switch does work. i'd rather dump it than figure out how to make it default to "off."
Dumping it sounds like a lot of work.. I'd fire off a question to the guys at Carputing. If that doesn't pan out, I'm sure it wouldn't be too tough to wire in a time delay relay in the ASR OFF button circuit. I don't personally know how to do this but it should be feasible. It'd end up like an automatic actuation of the ASR switch a second or two after engine start.
I'd persue these options before attacking the problem mechanically.
thinking out loud: if the ASR's intervention could be limited to timing changes, and we had control over the resulting timing changes, the ASR could actually be beneficial to auto-xing (even for good drivers).
don't C5s have some sort of performance mode, where the computer barely effects itself on the slip level?
Sorry for a late response on this. I tried to turn off my ASR as well and would get a SYS error popping up. So what I did was go into the retard section of the traction control and tamed down theamout ofretard it puts on the engine.
You can virtually tun it down to not retarding the engine at all aside from the one setting abuse retard. Mine will not clear to zero.
My car is supercharged and Ihave the same scenerio as you do I hit a patch of water the ASR would kick in and Ialmost was broadsided. I WAS NOT a happy camper.
I tweek the timing across the board to 11 degrees and it made a substantail difference.
