from a complete stop, either in 1st or in Reverse, my ASR would kick in and just gag the car - I'd usually be able to go though. Turning it off was the cheap work around.
last friday I wanted it right, so I finally dropped it off at the dealer (Classic Chevy in Moorestown, NJ). Today the only thing they've found is getting in a part that is no longer made - called a Tachometer Filter. I've not heard of it.
In the absence of schematics, shop manuals and experience, I can only ask does this make sense ? Has anyone else had this ?
I had to cut the tach filter out on my 94 when I installed MSD. I've ran without MSD and it had no effect. Cut it out. It is in a white wire down by your coil. you may have to pull some wire loom back to find it. I'm pretty sure thats what they are talking about.
The taqch filter is a wave shaper, or integrator,.electronics wise...some folks call it a filter, in that it takes the very short duration spikes and such off the line before it goes to the rest of the electronics,...been there since the early days, say '77?? of the GM vette tachs...and every generation since, AFAIK....so yes that tach filter could upset the ASR and such....incorrect wave form is presented to the ASR computer, and like the tach, it don't know what to do with it....
I don't KNOW this for a fact, but it seems possible...
Yeah you can just cut it out. It will be just fine. I know guys that had to remove it for the MSD as well and then later removed the MSD and no ill effects.
