I installed a shift light last week, and my tach hasn't worked since. I was wondering if anyone else has had this kind of problem. I know it is getting power, because the needle moves when I turn the key on. The shift light works fine, but no tach. I tied it in to the white wire that goes to the firewall.
Anyone have any ideas?
That's odd, listen to this I installed a shift light and my tach started working again. Before the SL the tach wouldn't work during low rpm's, now it does.
Check the tach wire to make sure that it is still going to the tach, not just the shiftlight.
I just did this a few weeks ago. When I was hooking up my shift light, I was trying to check for a good ground. Until I had a good ground, solidly hooked up, my stock tach would not work but the shift light would. Make sure you have a good ground for your shiftlight. My problem now is the shiftlight is set at 5000 and in first gear I hit the rev limiter immediately after the light comes on, but in second, it seems to work alright but the stock tach reads 400-500 higher than what the shiftlight says.
Thanks. I actually had a scan tool on it yesterday and didn't think to check that. I do know at idle, the tach is pretty close to what the scan tool said, but if it is off by a little at low rpms it may be off by more at higher rpms.
