Purchased a set of LPE headers before learning of the forum...since observed TPIS seem to be the choice headers. love my LPE, but was just curious, why TPIS over LPE??? besides the fact that changing plugs is a pain in the butt on pass. side...
thanks rich
Lots of guys dont like LPE cause of the cost. Also I hear their coating ( ceramic ) isn't that good. Most of LPE's headers are made by Hooker and get the LPE name tag. I've got Hookers ceramic coated by Jet Hot Coatings. :seeya
I dont know why you think that, I like LPE's, but i may get TPIS because they fit better supposedly. If one is cheaper thats the one i'll buy when the time comes basically.

You like the LPEs, but do you have them on your car? Trust me. You don't want these headers on your car. I just took off my LPE 1 5/8 and is using 2149s. The 2149s are much superior in both fit and craftmanship, and changing the plugs will be much easier. When I had the LPEs I couldn't even tighten the plugs on the passenger side. Just changing the plugs took me one full day and bloody knukles every time. For the same price or less buy the 2149 Hookers from Summit, you will thank yourself.
BTW: the TPIS is the same design as the Hooker not LPE.
Vader, if you want I will sell you my old LPEs, and you can see for yourself.
I don't know what the problem is with LPE headers. I had them (1 3/4 long tubes) on 2 vettes that I have owned. Never had one problem with fit or finish. As for the plug changes, it never took me more than one hour...ever. All you need is an open end wrench and its a cinch. 1-7 from the top and number 8 from the bottom. Whats the problem here folks? Not to mention they are about indestructable, I had to put a tiny flat spot in one of the tubes on the drivers side for the 8qt road race oil pan. I was beating the heck out of it with a 3 lb hammer and the tube was not denting a bit....most headers would have been crushed flat by this. The Jet Hot coating didn't even come off in that area.
I agree with Lee. I have never had any major problems changing plugs with my LPE headers. Maybe since my car is 1986, it easier, but I honest don't see the issues that the other are having. Number 5 comes out one click at a time, 1 and 7 from below. I did have problems with the coating (LPE warranteed my set) but they have since changed their headers to Stainless Steel. I would personally buy another set.
From a performance stand point, i think the LPEs are better. They come straight outa the head and have long sweeping turns. The TPIS headers make a sharp turn coming outa the head, but this enables them to provide better access to the plugs. However, after some practice and cutting down a spark plug socket, it's not an issue anymore. The LPEs as mentioned above are well built & heavy guage. I had no problems with fit, although the drivers side was a little tight on the install. The passenger side does sort of encase the starter in hot tubing so some heat shielding is recommended. The HPC coating on the LPEs is not great...after 5 years or so, they are starting to rust near the collector, however they have a lifetime warrantee and LPE has offered to recoat....but i gotta remove and ship :( If anything the TPIS headers are more expensive. The Hookers might be the best value.
well ive seen LPE's on friends vettes here and they looked good and the design was good for evacuating exhaust gases efficientlly, they said that they didnt have alot of troube removing plugs, although ive never had to help them work on theirs
